This song was inspired by the book 'A Civil War Memoir of a Boy from Baltimore', edited by Holly Powers. The book is about the remembrance of George C. Maguire, and his experience as a fourteen-year-old boy traveling with the Maryland 5th Infantry as they fought through the Peninsula Campaign at Hampton Roads, VA in May of 1862, and then the Battle of Antietam near Sharpsburg, MD on 16-17 September, 1862
